This was the basic grade of Iron Cross of which some five million were awarded in WW2. A good clean example with some crackelure to the paintwork and some rust spots to the iron. Maker marked 70 on the ring for Lind & Meyrer of Oberstein. The ribbon is a clean, original piece of buttonhole ribbon. Interestingly enough, this particular award is rarely found as a competently made fake. There were a few pieces made in France in the early 1970s from original dies with triple figure identical number maker punches, eg 666. |
