A scruffy example with the paintwork removed from the swastika and other bare patches evident on front and back. The ribbon is a short piece of scruffy nylon replacement and the unmarked ring, though damaged and open where it should be soldered shut, appears to be original. This was the basic grade of Iron Cross of which some five million were awarded in WW2. Interestingly enough, this particular award is rarely found as a competently made fake. There were a few pieces made in France in the early 1970s from original dies with triple figure identical number maker punches, eg 666. |
