This is from the Charlemagne era. According to A. Demmin (the author of an established book on arms and armour, published 1894), there is a similar example in the Copenhagen Museum. This measures nearly 19cm across.

Obviously a ground find, it is nonetheless in remarkably good shape. It has been cleaned and stabilised to a competent extent, with only minor surface rust extant on a very small scale.
