This is the standard GG other ranks belt plate, worn from the introduction of the new pattern tunic in 1855 until current times. The abrasion to the central device was common practice among Guardsmen in the late 19th / early 20th centuries - to give a better shine. The cipher on the flaming bomb is ER reversed for Edward VII (reigned 1902-11). This buckle would have been worn on the white buff belt with the red full dress tunic and bearskin. Its condition is excellent apart from the abrading of the central device and some service wear to the rest of the piece. |
