This buckle in white metal was the type used by the other ranks in the volunteer battalions of the British army in the Edwardian period and that leading up to WW1. There is evidence that, in the early years of the war (ie 1914-15) these buckles were actually worn at the front, along with leather ammunition pouches. The condition is excellent for its age, but shows mild use rather than abuse and is marked 'HOBSON & SONS // LEXINGTON ST.' Hobsons was a major supplier of personal equipment to the British army in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. |
