This rare survivor from the original raising of the Corps (in 1872) has a tin liner for the paper cartridges of the Enfield rifle of the 1860s and have been worn on a brown leather shoulder belt by all the other ranks in the unit. NCOs normally wore a shoulder belt with the arms of Eton College and a smaller leather back pouch. The condition is superb throughout, although there has been some shrinkage of the leather tag, which no longer connects with the brass stud at the base of the box. The badge is attached to the pouch by four small brass nuts and washers and would appear to be made of brass. |
