Engraved on the reverse 'PTE L ELLIS // WINNER // 1925', the badge on the obverse is that of the East Surrey Regiment. The medal could have been given for anything from football to shooting or any other regimental sport. The hallmarks are very faint, but they are there - the little lion is just visible, as well as the maker's initials.

I don't have a book on regimental ties, but this piece of ribbon, which came with the medal, is by association likely to be the regimental colours.

The condition of the medal is near VF, the reverse being rather knocked about, but the obverse has all the details nice and sharp.

There is also a hand-tinted portrait photograph of the young man in East Surrey Regiment uniform, in its photographer's mount (A.Hing, Hong Kong), inscribed in handwriting on the back: 'Wishing you a Happy Xmas and Prosperous New Year: Your Loving Son Louis xxx 1920'.
