This has its regimental marks on the leather tag for the 1st Infantry Regiment and is maker marked Haarmann of Ludenscheid. These buckles were introduced in 1936 in die-struck aluminium with a feldgrau paint finish. They were later replaced by a steel example. These aluminium buckles are considerably scarcer than the steel variety, especially if they have the bulk of their paint on them as this does. I would say that approximately 50% plus of the paint remains on the face and virtually all on the reverse. The leather tongue has shrunk somewhat and there is a little crackelure damage on the reverse, but I think the regimental marks make up for this. |
