Title Boer War commemorative ashtray
Nationality British
Period c 1902
Price £60.00

This little tinware ashtray (4.25 x 3.25 inches) has patriotic motifs printed on it, together with the image of Major General French flanked by soldiers with lions at their feet. The maker's logo, A. Lloyd & Sons Ltd London, can be read just above 'Soldiers of the Queen' (with my magnifying glass, at least!).

The piece has suffered somewhat over the years from wear and use. However, most of the main imagery and lettering is still clear. These little pieces simply did not survive and mostly would have ended up in the rubbish, so, although scruffy, an unusual item from the period.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
