militaria item Hertfordshire Rifle Volunteers crossbelt and pouch
- British
This unit was raised in the early 1860s, initially as only one battalion, later further battalions were added, but the absence of a unit number on this piece indicates its early provenance. It was probably worn by a sergeant or an officer. The Rifle Volunteer movement of the 1860s stemmed from the French invasion fears of the era.

militaria item Border Light Horse cartridge pouch and belt
- British
The pouch now has a king's crown badge, but is almost certainly of earlier vintage than the badge, on account of the tin liners, which were typically provided to hold paper cartridges in good shape in the Victorian period. Such a pouch could have held ammunition for a Westley Richards monkeytail carbine of the capping, breach loader variety.

I am wholly delighted with the shako plate. [It] is a wee cracker. It is a real pleasure to have something combining both condition and quality in equal parts, and I simply could not be more pleased.
