Title 1855 pattern 27th Foot (Inniskilling) officer's waist belt clasp
Nationality British
Period 1855-81
Sold

In 1881 the regimental numbering system was altered and two regiments (27th & 108th) were amalgamated into the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers (a distinguished Northern Irish regiment), so this buckle would have been manufactured before then, although its use by an officer in the 1st Battalion of the new regiment would have continued.

These buckles replaced the old shoulder belt plates of Crimea vintage and earlier and were worn on the buff leather belt in the field and the gold bullion belt for dress duties.

The condition is good, with the bulk of the gilding still intact on the front and reverse of the buckle. There is some distortion at the sides and the flag is missing from the central tower of the castle.

The pommel arrived safely today... It's a nice little object and really quite tactile... As usual, it was a pleasure to do business with you and I look forward to finding something else in your stock to tempt me.
