A nice example with an early nickel silver eagle and a bright aluminium cockade / oak leaf surround. The only problem with this cap is some moth nips of the cloth at the rear, together with some staining to the rear piping. The bonus, however, is all the marks inside the lining, including a nice clear date stamp for 1939. These caps were mainly worn by other ranks when off duty, eg walking out with their girlfriends, etc. However, NCOs were permitted to wear them in the field, both in the SS and the Army, as a means of distinguishing their rank. (The varying shades of green are due to difficulties with lighting. It is the correct field grey colour with a dark green band.) |
