This is a near mint example in field grey cloth of an artillery officer's pickelhaube cover, which was introduced mainly for potential war-time service in 1910 when the field grey uniform came into service. It is marked 'DRP' on the inside of the lining, which could be the owner's initials or possibly a maker's mark. The other ranks version had metal hooks to secure it to the helmet and usually a number stitched to the front indicating the unit. Pro rata, artillery examples are considerably harder to find than infantry. |
