Title Panzer officer's peaked cap
Nationality German
Period c 1939-45
Sold

This is the classic saddle-back officer's cap of the pre-war and wartime period, piped pink for armour and anti-tank units. This particular cap may well be an upgrade for an NCO, having black chin cord buttons as opposed to the normal silver ones, perhaps indicating promotion as NCOs' caps had black chin strap and buttons.

This is a Walter Hofmann of Erfurt cap of high quality wool and broadcloth. There is very little damage or wear, except on the inside of the lining at the front, where there is substantial sweat staining and an old repair to the lining. At the inside front of the cap, above the sweat band, there are two old stains to the body of the cap and the top lining. There is some damage to the rayon sweat shield, in particular a one-and-a-quarter inch crack to the top. However, the stitching is intact.

There is some wear to the vulcanite peak and the chin cords are a little worn in places. There is virtually no moth tracking or damage that I can see.

This is undoubtedly a genuine armour cap, not simply an artillery one with faded red piping; this piping started life as pink. Genuine piped armour caps are increasingly hard to find.

Today I received your flag. It's very nice and looks genuine to me. Beautifull crisp colors! It looks barely used. It's a nice addition to my ww2 collection. I would even say, one of my top pieces.

Thanks for your excellent service and top communication!

I will check your site more often to see if you have more nice pieces.
