This is the standard other ranks buckle worn throughout WW1 on a brown or black belt by all arms except cavalry. It is in die-struck brass; later in WW1 a die-struck steel example was produced and these are considerably scarcer than the brass examples. Structurally this piece is sound, but there is some age and polishing wear to the central coat of arms and the highlights of the eagle. NB: This has a natural shine which isn't replicated in the photograph, which was taken to illustrate the condition of the metal. |
