Title Home Service artillery officer's helmet ball, gilding metal
Nationality British
Period c 1879 on
Sold

This was worn by gunner officers on the blue cloth helmet in full dress up till 1914, following the influence of the Prussian army, who, victorious in the 1870-71 war against France, set the trend in uniform for the next generation. The Prussian artillery wore a ball on their helmet from the mid-19th century through till 1918.

This example retains 70% of its gilding, wear being in evidence on the top of the ball.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
