Title Heer officer's dress belt and buckle (Assmann), 1937 pattern
Nationality German
Period c 1937-45
Price £250.00

This full dress bright aluminium brocade belt (size 80cm) with its buckle would have been worn with parade dress and on various other formal occasions. The buckle is marked on the hook 'A' for Assmann & Co. Bandmasters had two red stripes running through the braid and generals wore them in gold bullion with a gilt buckle.

There was a field version of this belt in brown leather with the same buckle; sometimes the buckle was painted green. There was also a DAK version in webbing, with a sand-coloured buckle.

The condition is excellent throughout, with some minor wear to the brocade in places from the piece being folded by collectors over the years. Other than this, it is virtually ex-tailor's shop.

I am more and more pleased with the sword, and am wondering whether to do an article on it...
