This nice example, with 95% of its original green combat paint and period chicken wire camouflage net, has a leather chin strap which is marked Berlin and dated 1938. Police combat helmets in good shape are now getting harder to find, particularly one with this chicken wire camo effect. Typical of the helmets that the combat police battalions would have worn on the eastern front in places like the environs of Leningrad. Typically the police battalions served all over Europe in rear areas as occupation troops. However, the owner of this helmet obviously saw some front line service, hence the netting. The general condition of the leather work is excellent, both the strap and lining, with some signs of age wear to the latter. The decals are in superb shape, if somewhat faded with age. |
