Title Bell top shako chin strap, officer's, militia?
Nationality British
Period c 1830
Sold

This is a splendid set in double-side old Sheffield plate, with only the addition of a new leather connecting strap (at some stage). This pattern shako was worn between 1829 and 1844. The colour of the metal would suggest a militia unit with silver buttons rather than a line regiment with gilt.

These very rarely appear on the market as spare parts, hence my somewhat fancy price! A complete shako in good order is worth some ?3-4,500.

The overall condition is excellent, with some minor tarnishing to the scales.

testimonials

Just letting you know that the whistle arrived here this morning safe and sound. Your excellent packaging was still totally intact and it took me all of five minutes to break into it to see my purchase. I am very pleased, it is a great whistle.

Having received the beautiful medal that has been the subject of many recent phone calls, I am absolutely delighted with it. More importantly, the research you provided into the military backgrounds of all those involved made it all the more poignant. Thank you for your highly professional and friendly help and advice throughout the transaction.
