This pattern was worn throughout the period as the 18th Foot were one of the regiments whose numbers never changed. There is a version with the 18 under the harp. These buckles replaced the old shoulder belt plates of Crimea vintage and earlier and were worn on the buff leather belt in the field and the gold bullion belt for dress duties. The mounts on both sides of the buckle have essentially lost all their gilding, which remains on the stipple background of the centre at any rate. There is some distortion to the belt fittings on either side. |
