Title Year 9 French infantry hanger (model 1798)
Nationality French
Period 1815
Sold

A 'C' under a star punched in a small circle at the base of the blade is a French inspection mark for 1815. However, the other marks refer to German arms dealers who had acquired the piece after Waterloo, in particular the firm of H & R Boker, active in the mid-19th century. This is the classic infantry hanger of Napoleon's armies.

The original inscription on the back of the blade has been defaced by successive owners. There is a small hole in the scabbard leather and some minor damage to the brass mounts, but generally the piece is in excellent shape for its age. Hard to find original scabbards for these, in any case.

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
