Title West Meath Rifles glengarry badge
Nationality British
Period c 1870-81
Sold

In 1881, the WMR became the 9th Battalion, Rifle Brigade (the Prince Consort's Own), again dating this to before that. This badge would originally have been blackened, but the finish has now been polished off. One lug is missing from the reverse, but is otherwise in excellent shape.

These badges replaced the county militia titles worn formerly on the Pork Pie hat of the post-Crimea period. The glengarry cap, which replacecd the Pork Pie hat, looks like an American overseas cap, but with the addition of two silk tails at the rear and a pom pom on the top.

Bayonet arrived safe + sound this AM Sat. Special delivery excellent again. Worth the few extra bob. To be honest it was better than I dared hope. I usually avoid polished bits like the plague!! Your price was a bit fierce!! - but a great marking I lacked... Please email me anytime you have anything that might be of interest.
