'ENSIGN WILLIAM HEISE, 1ST LINE BATT. K.G.L.' Confirmed on the roll as an Ensign with the 1st Line Battalion of the King's German Legion. This unit consisted of 437 men on the day, of which 115 became casualties, including one officer killed and six wounded. With copy of medal roll and original split ring suspender.NEF.

Service record (written by himself for the authorities): Arnold William Heise, 18 years old when commissioned, resident last five years in the city of Hamelin, Hanover. Appointed 7.1.14 Ensign 1st Line Battalion KGL (not by purchase). Placed on half pay 25.3.16 (by reduction of regiment), then got a lieutenancy in Hanoverian Grenadier Guards. Took my ........ [illegible] after 9 years serving with a small pension of about ?10 pa. Received the rank of half pay Captain from the Hanoverian Government. Total service: full pay two-and-a-half years; half pay twelve-and-three-quarters. (With copy of this from PRO).
