Title Warrant Officer's sword
Nationality British
Period c 1860
Sold

This sword, unusual on account of the solid brass grip, is also intrinsically extremely rare because these swords were issue items, not the property of the owner, and were handed on from one WO to the next, as they left the army or, indeed, were commissioned.

The blade is maker marked 'Mole' at the forte, together with the broad arrow stamp and ordnance inspection stamps for the Birmingham depot. Apart from these markings, it is completely plain with a modified pipe back element at the point. The leather scabbard is in excellent condition for its age, with the seam intact. The brass hilt is also in good shape, with a few minor distortions from service wear, but essentially intact with no repairs.

testimonials

the Bayonet is superb and exactly as described if not better.

Your customer service is excellent, and will recommend you to others.

Hanger arrived safe and sound 11.30ish today. Very pleased, it's as expected. Your excellent pics make all the difference in terms of confident buying over the net. As a matter of interest, the frog, which as you said is very a/f, is, as you thought, 'spot on'. On closer inspection it is a mk.1 Naval Frog, designated 'for cutlasses'. Date seems around 1860ish give or take.

By the way, I think your site is very user friendly. Seems to work much better than many and up to date, a rarity!!!
