This document (21 x 14.75cm) commemorates the fighting in the new year/spring of 1942 to notify this NCO that he had been awarded the VK2 with swords. It appears to be personally signed by Generaloberst von Kleist, commander of 1st Panzerarmee. It is franked with the headquarters seal for the 1st Panzerarmee. The unit on the document is: 'Bew[bewaffnete].Nachsch[u]b.St[affel].f[ur].Ersatzteile Nr. 112'. This was an armed supply column unit, in this case reserve number 112. This may have been a regular army service corps outfit or, more likely, an armed supply column for the tanks, ie ammunition and petrol. Von Kleist had an interesting career, starting out as a general of cavalry and winding up with oak leaves and swords to his Knight's Cross in March 1944. Its condition is excellent for its age, with some foxing and a small tear at the top left, with several crease marks. (The mark at the top right is a smudge on my camera lens and not on the paper.) |
