Title Tank assault badge, 'silver' class, model 1939
Nationality German
Period c 1939-45
Sold

This is the classic 'silver' assault badge, given to all tank crew for having taken part in three armoured assaults on three different days or having been wounded in an assault or having won a decoration for bravery in an assault. The maker's mark on the reverse is that of Hermann Aurich of Dresden.

The badge is in exceptionally clean condition and there is perhaps 15% of the original silvered finish remaining. These badges do not lose their finish on account of post-war cleaning, but rather on account of the tendency of the zinc-based metal to absorb the exterior finish into the structure of the badge itself.
