This has the 1845 pattern blade and the staff officer's brass scabbard. It was made by Edward Thurkle of London (marked at forte, not visible in photo, 'E.THURKLE, SOHO, LONDON'). He was active at this address 1876-99. These swords were carried by majors up to the rank of lieutenant general, when the general officer's mamaluke kicked in. The blade has nearly all its factory polish, hence the price. The fishskin grip is in good shape and all the wiring is extant. |
