Title SS 1933 pattern dirk
Nationality German
Period 1935
Sold

Nice example with ebony grip and solid nickel silver mounts to the hilt and scabbard, with 95% original paintwork. The knot would appear to be a later rayon example from the mid-war period. The black leather strap is RZM marked (no SS runes) and has an original belt loop. The blade is marked RZM 188/35, indicating a date of 1935 and the retailer.

The blade is inscribed 'Meine Ehre Heisst Treue' (My honour commands loyalty). The reverse of the crossguard is marked '1', indicating a Munich area provenance. There is minor crushing to the ball end of the bottom chape and some enamel damage to the lightning bolts at the top of the grip, which has been repaired with cold enamel (the non-reflective nature of the enamel indicates this). This dirk could be both a purchase item by an SS member or a gift from the leadership. The presence of a late war portepee suggests possible Waffen SS ownership, as normally the Algemeine SS did not wear knots.

The helmet arrived the day before yesterday and I had a look at it today and everything looks perfect. You packed it up very well indeed. ... I've never seen him so thrilled with a gift!
