Title Silver presentation cheroot case, 4th Hussars

Extremely unusual presentation item. Inscription reads: 'From the non-commissioned Officers & Privates F. Troop 4th Hussars. To Capt. W.H. Davis as a mark of respect on his leaving the Regiment. Dublin Jany 1864.' Captain Davis was commissioned into the 4th Hussars in February 1856.

Unusual feature of Vesta case incorporated in the base of the case. Hallmark for Birmingham 1860-61 with maker mark A.T. Profusely hand engraved throughout with interior panels formed of engine-turned engraving. Minor surface wear in the form of dents to the lid. Remains of leather lining to interior.
