Title Seringapatam medal, silver, 45mm
Nationality Indian
Period 1808
Sold

This medal, struck in 1808 by Kuchler to commemorate the taking of Seringapatam from Tipu Sahb on 4 May 1799, is the Calcutta Mint striking, the commoner of the two, the other being the 48mm variety struck in England. This one would have been struck for British officers serving with the East India Company army.

The condition is excellent for its age. I would rate the condition as VF+. It shows the British lion defeating the tiger of Mysore (Tipu Sultan).

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
