These two photos, mounted back to back on board, have come out of an old British military album. The officers appear to be cavalry or mounted infantry, could even be Camel Corps personnel - note the presence of sabretaches and sabres. The foreign service helmet with linen neck shade is typical of this era. The card album page measures 30 x 19.5cm. The image of a pyramid on the reverse has '168 La Pyramide de Cheops' printed in the bottom left hand corner, thus perhaps a commercial item from a series, unlike the Sphinx photo. There is age and stain damage to both photos. The overall colour is a somewhat yellowed sepia, but the Sphinx image is still nice and sharp. |
