Title Sepia photo of Black Watch at Malta, on parade with cased colours
Nationality British
Period c 1875
Price £35.00

This sepia photograph, pasted on card cut from a page from a British military album, shows the 42nd at Malta, whence, according to Hart's Army list of 1879, they disembarked in November 1874. They would appear to be armed with Snider/Enfield conversions, which were the rifles in use during their stint in the 1873-4 Ashantee War.

Overall dimensions are 14 x 23cm. The card is damaged at the back and there is a 7cm tear to the bottom right of the image, but nothing that can't be secured with a little TLC! The overall colour is a somewhat yellowed sepia.

testimonials

I received the item today, you had packed it well and there were no problems with customs. Overall I was happy with it although the blade was a little bit worse than I had imagined, however thank you for your efforts.

Having received the beautiful medal that has been the subject of many recent phone calls, I am absolutely delighted with it. More importantly, the research you provided into the military backgrounds of all those involved made it all the more poignant. Thank you for your highly professional and friendly help and advice throughout the transaction.
