Title Saxon court official's button
Nationality German
Period c 1900
Price £20.00

This fine button (3cm) shows the Saxon coat of arms with 'Fideliter et constanter', the motto of Sachsen-Meiningen, one of the Saxon dukedoms. It is marked 'EXTRA FIEN' and would appear to be made of tombak with a good heavy coating of gilding to the face. Such buttons would have been worn on court officials' tunics and possibly on greatcoats.

It has none of the coppery glow that my camera/lighting has given it, but is a nice yellow gilt colour. The condition is excellent for its age, with a little peripheral wear to the gilding.

I received the item today, you had packed it well and there were no problems with customs. Overall I was happy with it although the blade was a little bit worse than I had imagined, however thank you for your efforts.
