Title Royal Flying Corps car badge
Nationality British
Period c 1953
Sold

This badge is die-struck brass with a chrome and enamel finish. The crown on the badge itself is a Queen Elizabeth II variety and the RFC badge in the centre is a 1914-18 badge which has been chromed with two screw lugs fitted to the reverse. The enamel colours are those of the RAF.

The owner of this badge (H. Colby - I bought it from the family and had his 'Air Board Technical Notes' for the RFC, as well as photos), who served in the RFC, was obviously very proud of his early service and had his early badge chromed up to match the later RAF badge, replacing the RAF centrepiece with the RFC one.

The enamel is in good shape, with the chrome showing some age spotting, especially on the reverse.

The parcel has arrived - at the time you indicated.

The sword lives up to expectations and looks even better than on the website. The detail and etching is superb.

Thanks so much for your help and the extra information.

Sword arrived today. Fabulous. This is an excellent example of a fighting sword of its period, and a real gem. The 1828 Pattern is such a gorgeous sword, and this is a fine example. Even my bride is impressed and she doesn’t really get swords.
