This is the OR's badge for both the blue cloth spiked helmet that was introduced into the British Army in 1871, as well as the white Foreign Service version, and then only underwent a change of crown in 1902 on the death of Queen Victoria, being worn with the dress uniform right up until 1914. It was die stuck in gilding metal, the officer's version being gilt. It is just over 8.5cm high by nearly 8.5cm wide. The condition is excellent with little or no wear. |
