Title Rifle Brigade other ranks helmet plate, 1879 pattern
Nationality British
Period c 1879-90
Sold

This was the plate for the green cloth Home Service helmet, introduced after the last pattern shako, to be followed by the astrakhan busby. It has the traditional Crimean battle honours, all the Peninsula ones, together with the honour for Lucknow and Ashanti, which latter was granted in 1876.

This other ranks' version in a blackened bronze finish differs somewhat from the officer's which has polished highlights and a pierced guelphic crown.

Its condition is nice for its age, with a little rubbing to the highlights, and it has its original dark green velvet backing.

testimonials

Having received the beautiful medal that has been the subject of many recent phone calls, I am absolutely delighted with it. More importantly, the research you provided into the military backgrounds of all those involved made it all the more poignant. Thank you for your highly professional and friendly help and advice throughout the transaction.

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
