Title Rifle Association Cadre Eagle cap badge
Nationality Polish
Period c 1913
Sold

This die-struck tombak badge (3.5 x 2.5cm) could be an officer's one, on account of the extensive traces of silver plate remaining. The Rifle Association Cadre was formed by Jozef Pilsudski in 1913 to train future soldiers for an independent Poland. The S stands for rifle (Strzelecki).

It is very worn, with only perhaps 50% of the silver plate finish remaining on the face of the badge, and the attaching nut appears to have jammed on the reverse. It looks like a ground dug object, partially cleaned.

Prov: from the J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. Pattern Book Archive, sold at auction by order of the National Army Museum, London.
