This is the standard Prussian officer's sword knot, worn by all arms from 1896 to 1918. The black leather strap has three strands of silver bullion running through it. The large size suggests pre-war manufacture, as war-time examples are usually considerably smaller, often having only two strands of bullion on the strap. The leather has lost some 30% of its nap and there is a small patch of verdigris on one side of the barrel and some verdigris scattered throughout the strap. |
