This is a Nepalese kukri from the DKW factory, which started production in 1945. It probably dates from the 1950s. It is a well-made piece with rosewood grips, brass mounts, black leather scabbard and frog, probably made as a private purchase item for local consumption or Gurkha military use. The blade measures 13" from point to forte. The chape is tin with a brown finish. The leatherwork, though sound, is a little dry overall and one of the by-knives is missing a brass cap. Both by-knives are horn-hilted, one having a few old worm nibbles. There is some age cracking to the top of the frog straps. |
