This is one of the rarest of the Victorian police swords and was carried by inspectors on special parade occasions and riot duty. It is modelled on the 1821 pattern Light Cavalry sword, with an 1845 pattern Wilkinson blade. The forte is marked WD with a broad arrow and an Enfield inspector's stamp, a crown over an E over a 12. The blade retains 95%+ of its original polish. The iron mounts have had some cleaning over the years and are now reasonably bright with some residue patina principally on the inside of the guard and some dark staining to the mounts, all of which could be polished bright if desired. The fishskin grip is in good shape with all its original nickel wiring, with the exception of one missing strand near the pommel. |
