Title Pair of silver-plated court shoe buckles
Nationality English
Period c 1775
Price £150.00

This is a particularly nice pair of buckles, which typically would have been worn at court or on special occasions. The base is silver-plated bronze with ormolu ornaments (the gilt elements on the frame).

Usually silver-plated buckles of this type have lost all or most of their silver finish by now, but these are in magnificent condition - the photos don't really do them justice as the surface has come up very bright.

There is some wear to the silver finish on the edges and on the underside where they have been mounted on shoes. I carefully removed a fair degree of verdigris, always evidence of leather contact over the years.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
