Title Pair of cut steel shoe buckles
Nationality Russian
Period c 1790
Sold

A superb pair! Four years ago, I had a smallsword with almost identical workmanship. Typical late Tula work with superimposed gold wire decoration and 'sharp' studs, indicating Russian origins. Woodstock and Birmingham work always have rounded studs.

There is the odd piece of studwork missing on at least one of the buckles, but, all in all, in superb condition for their age. They have obviously spent most of their lives in a box, sadly now missing!

Just to let you know, the knot has arrived and is an awesome piece. It will make a great addition to the collection.

I am wholly delighted with the shako plate. [It] is a wee cracker. It is a real pleasure to have something combining both condition and quality in equal parts, and I simply could not be more pleased.
