This English bayonet has native markings, possibly Nepalese, and may well have been used in the Indian Mutiny. Certainly this type of bayonet would have seen extensive service in the Crimean War and in the Mutiny. It is a bit scruffy and is lightly patinated with dried grease and surface rust over all, but is still in reasonable condition, with a little bruising at the muzzle end of the socket. It would have had a leather and brass scabbard, which is missing. |
