This has major differences when compared to the standard Prussian officer's knot, principally the outstanding quality of the bullion work and the yellow centre to the base and the yellow fleck in the bullion collar at the top of the knot (hence the possible Brunswick attribution). The leather strap appears to be a medium green, but this could have faded from blue, blue and yellow being the Brunswick colours. Prussian knots usually had black or silver in the base of the knot. Basically, the Brunswick attribution is a little tenuous, although whichever state this is from, it is not Bavaria or Prussia; it is simply a very good quality German sword knot from one of the smaller states. The leather has been carefully cleaned and still retains its suppleness. |
