Title Navy league buttonhole
Nationality Austrian
Period c 1914-15
Sold

This rather splendid little pin in gilt and enamel would have been sold to raise money for the Austrian navy in the early years of WW1. It has a maker's mark 'Ffthills, Nefer Wien' and also 'Depose' (patent pending). Loosely speaking, from memory, this badge is based on the cap badge design of the Austrian navy.

It measures 3.4cm long and there is some fairly severe corrosion/verdigris to the reverse of the buttonhole fitting, which I have largely removed. Fortunatley the maker's mark is still legible.

Just to let you know the badge arrived safely. Thank you very much. I'm very pleased with it.

I received the silver Verdienstkreuz this morning. Your swiftness and dedication was very much appreciated and, though the envelope arrived with a Post Office sticker saying it had been found open or damaged, the cross was unharmed and looks beautiful. Thanks for your time.
