This was made for the Ross (5-round box magazine) bolt action rifle of 1903 between 1911 and 1916 when the rifle was withdrawn from service due to poor performance in the mud and dirt of Flanders. This example has a Canadian-made scabbard dated 1915 and has the wider belt loop for the web belt. There is an issue stamp for April 1916 on the pommel. The blade measures 10" and, apart from a few old patches of surface corrosion, is in excellent shape with most of the original cross grain polishing marks. The grips show some minor bruising. The muzzle ring has a small bruise and minor corrosion. |
