Marked on the crossguard and top scabbard mount: 'B.E.B.1' (Bavarian Railway Battalion). Bavarian inspection stamps to both sides of the throat on the top scabbard mount. Blade marked 'O' (for Otto) and dated 1911. The marks are matching on the hilt and scabbard, except for the individual weapon number (ie the unit is the same). Good leather scabbard with no appreciable shrinkage; good walnut grips; minor age patination to hilt and scabbard mounts; blade excellent with evidence of competent field service sharpening. Scarce to find Bavarian pioneer bayonet with railway markings. |
