This 1939-dated bayonet has the Polish eagle stamped at the forte and a German Waffenamt stamp (number '77') signifying acceptance into Wehrmacht service. It was made at Radom, a large arsenal just outside Warsaw, and stamped as such. It would have been used by the German army after its capture from the Poles. This example has no flashguard on the back of the hilt and appears to have been made this way. The blade retains perhaps 30% of its original finish and has been professionally sharpened down to 6" from the point. There is no finish left on the grip which is of beechwood, the reverse grip having an old oil stain midway. There is no scabbard, which could either have been of the Polish variety or a German re-issue of K98 type. |
