Title Mauser bayonet, 1924 model
Nationality Belgian
Period c 1920s
Sold

This bayonet, originally introduced into service in 1916, is clearly the 1924 model on account of the scabbard formation (matching numbers to scabbard, blade and hilt). This would have been the standard bayonet of the Belgian army in the 1920s, then captured by the Third Reich and used by them in rear units in WW2.

It has most of its finish on the blade (just under 45 cm long) and hilt, together with substantial traces of original varnish to the grips. The scabbard has suffered somewhat, leaving only a little finish around the frog stud at the top of the scabbard.

Excellent information, Chris, you've been making a big effort! I will spell it out more closely (I'm a historian!) and don't think Bezdek can add much more.
