Title M1 carbine bayonet
Nationality American?
Period c 1948+
Sold

This bayonet, marked 'US M8A1' on throat of scabbard and 'M8' on forte of blade, may have been made for some friendly foreign government on account of the leather belt strap. US belt straps are always, on this bayonet, made of webbing.

One possibility is that this is a replacement strap, hence the price (a ?75 bayonet otherwise). Another possibility is that this is a South Korean piece, as they used copious amounts of US equipment, both in the Korean war of 1952-3 and later. There is no grenade ordnance stamp on the pommel.

I received the bayonet today. Very nice example. I will keep an eye on your site for possible future purchases.

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
